Yarra Boathouses
The
banks of the Yarra River provide a refuge for small pockets of
native forest right into the city. Two well known boathouses now
provide expensive restaurants in restored buildings with row boats
and canoes for hire.
Studley Park
Studley Park is the closest to the city and has 'large' areas of
relatively natural forest around it. A short paddle downstream is
the weir at Dights Falls, although most people head upstream towards
Fairfield.
Fairfield
Fairfield Boathouse is a popular spot on weekends for picnics and
rowing on the Yarra. There's also an amphitheatre next to the
premises.
It's a private boat ramp so if you have your own canoe/kayak
you'll have to put in somewhere else. This isn't a great problem as
it's a long walk from the car anyway. |
