Yarra Bend
Yarra
Bend consists of a large are of parkland with a significant
proportion of natural forest very close to the city center. The main
two attractions are the boathouses at Studley Park and Fairfield
with row boats, canoes and kayaks for hire. There is also the
picturesque Yarra Bend golf course and several smaller parks that
are not as busy as the main ones.
Point Galatea near Studley Park has great views of the city but
is often overlooked because it is not on the main road. The bushland
on this point is perhaps the closest to its natural state compared
to other areas of the park.

Take a picnic basket!
Both Studley Park and Fairfield have restaurants/ cafes which are
quite nice for an organised function but drop in for a bite to eat
and....... It was a hot summer's day when we paddled up to Fairfield
Boathouse and decided to get something to eat. A simple hamburger
sounded good (it was one of the cheapest items on the menu) and at
twice the normal price ($7.00 for a plain burger with cheese in a
bread roll) it had better be. I ordered, was given a number and told
to return in 5 minutes. I looked at the pile of burgers ready to go
and wondered why I had to wait. I returned in 5 minutes, she pulled
out three plates, put a bread roll on each and asked the cook for 3
burgers with cheese. Sure enough he took the burgers from the pile
of ready cooked ones and then placed the melted cheese on top. Of
course.... how silly I was.... it takes 5 minutes to melt a slice of
cheese. Take a picnic basket!
