As a hiker I have to admit I'm a bit of a map freak.  Before I go anywhere for a trip I go out and get a map and then plan my hike from there. But when it comes to the internet you don't get much for free these days, and if you want a decent map, well you just have to make your own. Not all of the material here is intended to be useful. Some of it is here purely for interest.
