The McKenzie River

 [ gramp016 ]

[ gramp063 ] While most people know of McKenzie Falls, the river both upstream and downstream of the falls also has a lot to offer. The walking track down to McKenzie Falls unfortunately (or fortunately depending on which way you look at it) hides some very interesting falls and cascades. The first waterfall most people see is the long cascade of Broken Falls. This is followed by other smaller falls before the final descent to the base of McKenzie Falls.

[ gramp001 ] Other waterfalls, such as this part of Drummer Falls, can only be seen by walking along the river, but this can be difficult because of the thick vegetation and it would make you not exactly popular with the rangers.

After McKenzie Falls, the walking track continues to follow the river to Zumsteins, which is one of the best places to see kangaroos in the wild.
