Grampians

Calectasia Falls

[ gramp018 ] This beautiful waterfall is not well known, nor well publicised, but I consider it to be one of the Grampian's best. It's catchment is quite small and the amount of water flowing over it depends greatly on the amount of rainfall in the last week.

The walking track to it starts on the Mt Rosea Track, just before it becomes 4WD territory and passes by Tower Hill, an interesting rocky outcrop in its own right. There are two tracks from Tower Hill, one going north and then following the creek, the other, more direct route, follows the ridge west, straight to the waterfall. Both tracks have sections that are not well marked. The return journey is only about 5km, although the Mt Rosea Track is closed in winter which would add another 12km.

The steep little gorge, and large boulders at the base of the falls provide good fun for scrambling around and exploring. There are plenty of interesting viewpoints of the waterfall and plenty of large flat boulders to rest on lizard-like on a lazy summer's day.
