I grew up knowing this rock formation to be "The Jaws of
Death" and it seemed quite an appropriate name. The rock jaws
of a giant lizard protruding from the cliff top. You stand at the
tip of his tongue and peer nervously over the edge at the long drop
below. But you can't mention death or nasty things in
brochures for tourists from more superstitious countries and so they
were renamed to "The Balconies" to which I can only use
that great Australian double positive "Yeah right!"
Being close to the road it's one of those must see places for
many tourists and it provides one of the best views looking west
across the Victoria Valley.
