The Balconies

[ gramp052.jpg ]

I grew up knowing this rock formation to be "The Jaws of Death" and it seemed quite an appropriate name. The rock jaws of a giant lizard protruding from the cliff top. You stand at the tip of his tongue and peer nervously over the edge at the long drop below.  But you can't mention death or nasty things in brochures for tourists from more superstitious countries and so they were renamed to "The Balconies" to which I can only use that great Australian double positive "Yeah right!"

Being close to the road it's one of those must see places for many tourists and it provides one of the best views looking west across the Victoria Valley.
