Hanging Rock
OK so I've been a bit slack and haven't written much about
Hanging Rock to date. The setting for the book Picnic at Hanging Rock and
site of the Hanging Rock Races, this small rocky outcrop attracts a lot
more attention than perhaps it really deserves.
In the right (or probably 'wrong' for most people) weather
and the right light the boulders do have an eerie feel about them but
after you've climbed up and over them you can't but get that "is this
all there is" feeling. But a pile of rocks, no matter how small
always makes for some fun scrambling and exploring. They are also popular
for climbing and abseiling.
The pictures... well during the first year of my course we
went out to Hanging Rock for a day's photographing (with the obligatory
BBQ and drinks) and while I tried to capture an 'eerie' shot of the rocks
I was a little underwhelmed by them compared to other places I have been.
What did catch my attention were the nice views of surrounding farm land
and the wonderful variety of lichens and mosses growing on the rocks. So
if you do go there and head off scrambling over the boulders, remember to
stop and get up real close to them.....
