Catching Some Sleep

 [ alpine052 ]

By now you will know that my hiking routines are far from routine and often impinge on those hours normally reserved for sleeping. If the weather is good there is another more enjoyable time to sleep that most people overlook and that is the early afternoon.

To start with the light is usually dead ordinary as will be many of the photographs taken at this time. It is also warmer, placing less stress on your body when you sleep (ie you don't wake up cold). If it's really hot you avoid hiking in the hottest part of the day and it really is very refreshing. With a haphazard routine I usually sleep...... when I'm tired.

"Afoot and lighthearted I take to the open roads
Healthy and free, the world before me.
The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.
Henceforth I ask not good fortune,
I myself am good fortune.
Henceforth I whimper no more,
Postpone no more, need clothing,
Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms.
Strong and content I travel the open road."

Walt Whitman, from: Leaves of Grass
