Lens Calibration

Getting Ready

This example is a real calibration I did for my Pentax 17mm lens. The images are of the Economics & Commerce Building at The University of Melbourne. Variations in lighting occurred because of a cloud passing over the sun but for the purposes of this exercise they are irrelevant.

Full Scene

This is a good test subject because there are lots of vertical lines in the building, covering some 240° of the view.  The paving provides lots of detail (for selecting control points close to the camera) and lots of lines (for checking stitching accuracy)

Below are some low resolution versions of the images used in this example if you want to try this for yourself.

The images have been scanned from negatives and manually cropped to identical dimensions. Because of this the offset of the each image will also have to be optimised.
