Big Ben's Terragen Gallery

Sunset, Mt Cleveland, Glacier NP.

My first serious sunset. The sun placement is geographically incorrect (the sun is due south) but I just loved the view from this ridge. Also my first prize  in a Terragen contest  :-)  I'm hoping to get my hands on the DEMs for the Canadian side of the border to do a 360° image from this camera position as it really is an awesome spot.

Yosemite - Work in progress

True to the Law of Maps this the area of interest in this terrain is at the corner of 4 DEMs. 360° panorama with crude hand drawn waterfall.

Star Field Test

This is my first test image of combining star fields from HNSKY with a Terragen image.  Looking across Australia from SE to NW with Scorpius setting.

Moonlit starry night

This series of images tests my moonlit night atmosphere as well as adding my star map and mask generation.
JPEG approx. 550kb, QTVR approx. 330kb.

The mask used to blend the sky was created by adjusting the lighting and atmosphere settings of the Terragen world to produce a largely BW image.  This allows stars to shine through thin clouds as can be seen in the large cloud in the centre of the image.  The blue in the mask is from water transparency.

For demonstration purposes I've created different versions to show the construction of the final image.

  • Daylight
This is pretty much a default atmosphere apart from some tweaks to haze for the fog and atmospheric blue (half-height and density) to provide a reasonable gradation when converted to a night scene.
  • Moonlit landscape
  • Landscape + star map
  • Landscape + star map + milk way
  • Landscape + star map + milky way + reflection of stars in lakes
<Layers>Stars flipped vertically, a small horizontal blur applied and blend mode set to screen at 50% of the value of the sky.. very subtle for this panorama but worth the test for other watery landscapes. More complex masking would be required for a large body of water but it should be possible to create a relatively realistic effect.

Great Dividing Range Flyover

My first Terragen animation, flying over the Great Dividing Range from north to south. I'll return to this once I finalise the surface mapping and lighting.
